Electricity will be restored to Badulla Teaching Hospital

Steps have been taken to restore electricity supply to several sections of the Badulla Teaching Hospital, which were disconnected due to non-payment of outstanding electricity bills.

An outstanding electricity bill of nearly 07 crore rupees had been forwarded to the hospital and due to non-payment, the electricity board had taken steps to cut off the electricity in the hospital’s medical quarters, nursing training section and nursing dormitory yesterday morning.

However, it was reported that yesterday (10) afternoon, the hospital administration paid an amount of 20 million rupees and after informing in writing that the remaining amount will be paid within a week, steps have been taken to restore the electricity supply.

Dr. Palitha Rajapaksa, Uva Provincial Coordinator of the Government Medical Officers’ Association said that the hospital authorities are not paying the electricity bill without proper management and the doctors and employees are in dire straits.

In the meantime, former Uva Provincial Council member of Janatha Vimukti Peramuna Mr. Samantha Vidyaratne made a special disclosure and said that many other payments including the water bill of 98 lakh rupees of Badulla Teaching Hospital have been defaulted.
