Electricity tariff reduction marks further delay.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has directed the Ceylon Electricity Board to submit a tariff proposal after considering the profit earned from hydropower generation in the year ending December 2023.

Accordingly, CEB end-user and bulk supply tariff proposals from January to March 2024 have been received by the Public Utilities Commission on January 16, 2024. Although the Commission has requested some clarifications from the CEB, the information has not yet been received.

The Commission intends to consult stakeholders as required under Section 30(3) of the Sri Lanka Electricity Act on the proposed tariff structure and associated costs. The Commission notes that this information is necessary to act as soon as possible to ensure the timely implementation of the tariff revision.
