Elections cannot be held until the IMF deal is finalized

It is reported that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the Council of Ministers and the Election Commission that the elections can be held only after the completion of the economic reform work with the International Monetary Fund.

At this time, the President said that the priority should be given to the country’s economic progress, and that it is important to successfully complete the economic reform process in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe has mentioned this when he met with the Cabinet and Election Commission officials.

It is reported that the President mentioned that the International Monetary Fund’s program is to be implemented until the end of July, and elections cannot be held before then.
