Due to VAT, patients stop taking medicines

The All Ceylon Medical Officers’ Association states that there is a risk of a 25% increase in drug prices due to the increase in VAT. Its secretary Dr. Jayantha Bandara says that the price of medicines and health equipment has increased three times in the recent past.

He also said that the increase in medicine prices this year will be an unbearable crisis.

He warns that many patients with non-communicable diseases have stopped taking medicines and it is a serious situation as a country.
