Due to the frequent earthquakes near Sri Lanka, there is a tsunami threat on the east coast

As the Indo-Australian tectonic plate in Sri Lanka is now clearly separated into two parts, more large earthquakes may occur in the area in the future, says Atula Senaratne, a former senior professor in the Geology Department of the University of Peradeniya.

He added that there was no risk of a tsunami due to the earthquake that occurred three hundred and ten (310) kilometers away from Batticaloa yesterday (11) at around 1.30 in the morning, but if such shocks occur frequently in the east coast, tsunami risks may arise.
