The Polgolla Reservoir is to be completely emptied, the Chief Dams and Mahaweli Reservoir Director of the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority DM Dharmadasa said that the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority has planned to completely empty the reservoir from midnight on the 27th of this month due to an essential maintenance work to be done on the gate system. .

This maintenance should be done annually, but this time it will be done after two years.

After the reservoir is completely emptied, the main gate will be maintained on the 28th and 29th of this month.

He also said that due to the emptying of the reservoir, there will be no electricity generation from the power plant located in Ukuwela.

He also mentioned that when the Polgolla Reservoir is emptied, a large amount of water will be released into the Victoria Reservoir, so people using the Lower Mahaweli River should be careful and after the Polgolla Reservoir is emptied, it is dangerous to fish in the reservoir and go down to the silty reservoir to see it.

The director made these comments in a press conference held at the engineering office to inform the media regarding the maintenance work.

Ms. Shashika Ilangasinghe, Director of Water Supply and Drainage Board (Kandyura North) who spoke there, mentioned that since the reservoir will be empty on the 28th and 29th, the water treatment plants in Kandy and Polgolla will not be able to get water. , Thannekumbura, Mawathagama, Pathadumbara areas are not able to provide water. She also mentioned that this will affect about one lakh families.
