Dr. Wasantha Sena Welianga, the Sri Lankan scolar on hemp, was arrested yesterday by the Lunugamwehera police.
The arrest has been made in a house he had obtained on rent basis in Lunugamwehera area. The police also seized the hemp samples he had at that time. A spokesperson for the family told our website that it is normal for him to keep samples of different hemp strains, as he is engaged in various researches on hemp.
He further said that it is surprising that a person like Dr. Wasantha Sena Welianga, who is an authority on the subject, was arrested by the police at a time when the Parliament even passed ordinances to legalize the cultivation of hemp.
Dr. Wasantha Sena Weliangaya is the author of the investigative work “Trailokyavijaya” written on hemp.
