Doctors’ strike called off .

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has temporarily suspended the island-wide strike that was scheduled to begin today (31) at 8.00 a.m. . The association says that this decision was taken after a successful discussion with the health authorities.

The association further states that the special meeting held yesterday (30) between the Minister of Health, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, the Director General of Health Services and the representatives of the association was successful as expected and therefore the strike that was called off has been called off.

The Ministry of Health has agreed to suspend the transfers of controversial doctors who tried to be implemented outside the accepted procedure. Accordingly, the transfers are scheduled to be implemented within a specified period of time in accordance with the accepted tradition in the future.

Accordingly, the Executive Council of the association has decided to temporarily extend the suspension of the strike until 12 noon until written confirmation of the agreement is received.
However, the Government Medical Officers Association emphasizes that it reserves the right to resume the strike at any time if the agreed conditions are not implemented.
