Doctor’s statement to court. ”The police beat me” rapist tells court

The police have informed the court through a ‘B’ report regarding the rape of a doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

Accordingly, the doctor who faced the incident has told the police in her complaint.

“I was asked to open the door of the hostel… by putting a knife to my neck and threatening to kill me. The person who asked me to remove the password of my mobile phone played Hindi songs on the mobile phone. He said, ‘Don’t make noise, if you make noise, I will cut your neck’.

At one point, I tried to stab him with the knife that the person was holding. My hand was cut. When I tried to stab him with the knife, the person became very angry. Then I felt afraid that I would be killed.

When the suspect left after the incident.. ‘I will take the phone.. I will not find it again.. I took all the photos.. don’t tell anyone. If you tell, you will only be in trouble…I’m sorry’, he said.”

She further stated that she worked until 3:30 pm on the 10th and that after finishing her work, she returned to the hostel and then went to Ruwanweliseya in a three-wheeler to worship and returned to the hostel in a three-wheeler at around 6:30 pm.

She further stated that when she opened the door to enter her room, she felt someone behind her and turned around. As soon as she looked back, a person who was leaning against the door of the room in front of her room put a knife to her neck and said, “Don’t scream, open the door” and covered her mouth with the other hand. She stated that she was scared and opened the door of the room and then pushed her into the room.

The Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital doctor has informed the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Nalaka Sanjeewa Jayasuriya that the police have been informed of this through her complaint by the Anuradhapura Headquarters Police.

The doctor has stated that the suspect involved in the incident is a man of about 5 feet and 8 inches tall, a thin man who was not wearing a shirt, and a man with short hair who was untidy and dirty.

The ‘B’ report submitted by the police to the court regarding the doctor’s complaint to the police further stated that before the rape, the suspect had closed the door of the room and turned on the lights and checked the surroundings, and then only turned on the lights in the bathroom.

“I am a deserter from the army. I am being sought by the police. I will stay for a while. I will not do anything to you. Don’t make noise. If you make noise, I will cut your throat. It is not a big problem for me.” The police have informed the court that the person also said that the doctor said that.

The suspect then raped her, tied her up and left, and that she herself untied the ties, went to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital and informed the doctor in the ward where she worked about the incident. From there, she informed her father and her closest friend, a doctor working at the Samanthurai Hospital, through the doctor’s phone.

She has also told the police that she will be able to identify the person who committed this crime if she sees him again.

Taking into account the facts presented by the police to the court, Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Nalaka Sanjeewa Jayasuriya has ordered the police to submit a report to the court indicating the progress of the investigations into this crime.

Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Nalaka Sanjeewa Jayasuriya ordered the Anuradhapura Headquarters Police to detain the suspect, Nilantha Maduranga Ratnayake, a 34-year-old former army soldier, for 48 hours, question him and produce him before the court again.

When the suspect was produced before the Magistrate, he informed the Magistrate that he was brutally assaulted by the police.
