Doctors in a professional action. Restrict prescribing of outside medicines and tests

The Government Medical Officers Association has decided to embark on a trade union action tomorrow (17), said the Secretary of the Association, Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa.

Accordingly, doctors in all hospitals in the island have decided to restrict the provision of selected services, including prescribing medicines purchased from outside pharmacies and recommending tests to be carried out from outside laboratories, from tomorrow.

The Government Medical Officers Association has taken this decision to protest the failure of the President to properly address the problems of the health service and doctors in the budget presented for the year 2026.

Secretary of the union, Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa, said that the government parties were informed about this and that since there was no positive response, his union has decided to embark on this trade union action from 8 am tomorrow.
