Acting Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni said that a disciplinary investigation is expected to be conducted against Dr. Rukshan Bellana, Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital.
Addressing a media briefing, he said that the disciplinary investigation is expected to be conducted regarding the disclosure of information about the health condition of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to the media while he was receiving treatment at the hospital.
Commenting further on this matter, Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni said the following.
“A deputy director of the Colombo National Hospital had issued statements about the health condition of Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe. He has no right to issue such announcements.
That gentleman was admitted, not in his section. When a patient comes to us, every patient is a patient. And we do the best we can as the Ministry of Health.
But the person you mentioned at the National Hospital is doing a job that does not belong to him. An investigation must be conducted into it. Because no matter what his rank, he has no right to provide information about a patient to the media. Some of his actions are illegal.”
