The anticipatory bail application filed by former Minister Manusha Nanayakakara before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, requesting that he be released on anticipatory bail before being arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, was considered today.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate, who considered the application, rejected it today. At that time, the lawyer who appeared for him was informed that his client would appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption tomorrow to give a statement.
The lawyer has subsequently submitted a letter to the Bribery Commission requesting that his client be given time to appear before the Commission tomorrow. Despite this, an investigation team has gone to his Narahenpita residence in search of the former minister this evening.
A complaint had been filed against the former minister alleging that he had given jobs to individuals based on political affiliations when providing Israeli jobs, and accordingly, these investigations are being conducted.
