Former IGP Deshabandhu Thennakoon is reportedly involved in the kidnapping of Venerable Vedenigama Wimalatissa Thero to forcefully obtain the seat of MP of the Ape Jana Bala Party. This is according to an affidavit submitted by Venerable Vedenigama Wimalatissa Thero to the court.
Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero had issued a warrant to the court for the kidnapping and detention of Venerable Vedenigama Wimalatissa Thero, the General Secretary of the Ape Jana Bala Party, in order to obtain the seat of MP of the National List that was awarded to the party after the parliamentary elections held in August 2020.
Athuraliye Rathana Thero, who had been continuously evading court, was remanded until the 12th after appearing before the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
