A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking a ruling that the gazette notice issued to hold the parliamentary polls on November 14 is against the Constitution. ‘We are Sri Lanka National Organisation’, convener H. M. This petition was filed by Priyantha Herath.

The Attorney General, the President’s Secretary, the Chairman of the Election Commission and other members and the Attorney General have been named as respondents on behalf of the President.

According to the Parliamentary Polling Act, the date for polling should be fixed within a period of not less than five weeks and not more than seven weeks from the date on which nominations are accepted, but November 14 cannot be designated as the election day.

The petitioner further requested the Supreme Court to rule that the Constitution is being violated and to issue an appropriate order to correct the wrong in question.
