Death toll from mysterious fever spreading in Jaffna rises up to five.

The death toll from an unidentified fever spreading in Jaffna has now risen to five, says Jaffna Hospital Director Dr. Sathyamoorthy. Speaking to the media yesterday, Dr. Sathyamoorthy said this.

The disease is suspected to be Leptospirosis, also known as ”rat fever”, and bio samples have been sent to Colombo to confirm the diagnosis, he added.

The Health Promotion Bureau has also initiated an investigation into the disease. Speaking to the media, Dr. Kumudu Weerakoon of the Epidemiology Division of the Ministry of Health said that detailed tests are underway to accurately identify the nature of the disease.
