Court verdict on Duminda who was found in possession of a gold-plated T-56

The Colombo High Court has ordered that the petition filed by Duminda Dissanayake, who was arrested on suspicion in connection with the incident of possession of a gold-plated firearm and is now a former minister, be called on July 14th for hearing.

This order was made when the petition was called before Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne today (30).

At that time, President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis presented facts on behalf of the petitioner, and the High Court Judge, who considered the facts presented, stated that it is appropriate to conduct an inquiry into this petition based on the facts presented before the court.

The Judge stated that upon examining the reports submitted, it appears that these investigation files have now been submitted to the Attorney General and are under the supervision of the Attorney General.

Pointing out that the third suspect involved in this incident has now been released on bail by the Magistrate’s Court, the judge ordered the State Counsel to present evidence on the next day regarding the statement he gave to the police.

It was then ordered that this petition be called for hearing on July 14th.
