The Court of Appeal today issued a writ order restraining former President Maithripala Sirisena from appearing in court in connection with the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
The order issued by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court to appear in court in connection with a private complaint filed against former President Maithripala Sirisena for failing to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks has been quashed.
A five-judge bench of the Court of Appeal issued this order in relation to the writ petition filed by former President Maithripala Sirisena seeking to quash the order issued by the Magistrate’s Court summoning him to court.

However, the bench stressed that this verdict will not prevent the private prosecution from continuing before the Fort Magistrate’s Court if new evidence is presented.
