Copies of agreements signed with Modi are not in the Presidential Secretariat.

It has been revealed that the Presidential Secretariat does not have copies of the agreements signed during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka News inquired from the Presidential Secretariat under the Right to Information Act whether the copies of the agreements signed during the visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Sri Lanka are in the possession of the Presidential Secretariat.

Responding to the request made under the Right to Information Act, the Presidential Secretariat stated that since the President has not signed the agreements, the copies of them are not in the possession of the Presidential Secretariat.

An information request has also been submitted under the Right to Information Act regarding whether the copies of these agreements are in the possession of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in response to that request, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed that the relevant agreements should be inquired from the relevant ministries. However, the inquiry regarding whether the copies of those agreements are maintained in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in writing had not been answered. Therefore, Sri Lanka News has filed an appeal in this regard with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa informed the press conference to inform the Cabinet of Cabinet decisions that information on the agreements signed during the visit of the Indian Prime Minister should be sought under the Right to Information Act, and accordingly, Sri Lanka News submitted the relevant information requests.

Meanwhile, senior diplomatic officials at the Indian High Commission have informed certain opposition political parties not to fight over the security agreements signed with India, embassy sources further state.
