Cardinal goes to court against Deshabandhu

Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith and Alternative Policy Center have filed two more petitions before the Supreme Court requesting that the appointment of Acting Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Tennakoon be declared against the law.

Members of Parliament who are members of the Constituent Assembly have been made respondents in those petitions.

Professor Savitri Gunasekara and Samagi Jana Balawegaya former provincial councilor Mr. Niroshan Padukka first filed two fundamental rights petitions requesting that the appointment of Acting Inspector General of Police Deshbandhu Tennakoon be declared against the law.

The petitioners, stating that it was not a full decision of the Legislative Council as the members of the Constituent Assembly opposed the appointment of Deshbandu Tennakoon as the Inspector General of Police, requested in their petitions to issue an order nullifying the said decision.
