C.E.B accepts the blame for leaving the country in black due to lightning

An official of the Public Utilities Commission said that the Ceylon Electricity Board has admitted that it did not take advance measures to prevent nationwide power cuts in the event of a lightning strike.

Due to the recent lightning strike, the Kothmale-Biyagama main transmission line went out of operation and the entire country was left without electricity.

Commenting on the matter, Public Utilities Commission (PUC) Chairman Professor Manjula Fernando told the media that the Electricity Board admitted the fault of not taking steps to prevent such an accident.

However, he said, installing advanced systems to prevent lightning damage would cost the power board a lot.
