The inaugural budget of the Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha, which is under the control of the National People’s Power, was defeated today (16) by a majority of one vote. The budget received 16 votes in favor and 17 votes against.
34 members, including 16 members of the National People’s Power and 18 members representing the Joint Opposition, represent the Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha.
A chairman for the Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha was selected by drawing lots, and Anuruddha Mahaweli, representing the National People’s Power, was elected as the chairman.
Accordingly, the inaugural budget for the year 2026 of the Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha was presented by the chairman today and in the vote on it, the 16 members of the National People’s Power voted in favor and the 17 members representing the Joint Opposition voted in opposition.
The elected MP representing the United National Party did not attend today’s session.
