The Trincomalee Magistrate today (02) ordered that the 10 suspects including Balangoda Kassapa Thero and four other monks who were arrested and remanded in connection with the Trincomalee Buddha statue incident be further remanded until the 9th.
This was when the case was taken up in the Trincomalee Court today.
Accordingly, the four monks who were remanded were Venerable Trincomalee Kalyanawansa Tissa Thero, the incumbent of the Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi Bodhiraja Viharaya located on the Fort Road in Trincomalee, Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero, Venerable Trincomalee Sukhithawansa Tissa Thero and Venerable Nanda Thero.
The Trincomalee Magistrate ordered their remand on the 19th after the Attorney General and the Trincomalee Port Police refused to withdraw the charges filed under the Coastal Conservation Act.
