The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today ordered the release on bail of Shadhika Lakshani, the wife of Backo Saman, who was remanded under the Narcotics Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Announcing the relevant bail order, Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama stated that the prosecution had not presented sufficient evidence to the court to remand the suspect under Section 54 (1) of the Narcotics Act.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to be released on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000/- and three sureties of Rs. 2 million each, and ordered that the suspect be banned from traveling abroad.
In addition, another bail condition imposed on the suspect was that she must report to the Criminal Investigation Department every Sunday morning.
