Arrested DMT Commissioner and others granted bail

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court ordered the release of two suspects and a suspect on bail in connection with the incident of approving the issuance of a number plate for a motor vehicle illegally registered at the Motor Traffic Department without clearance from Sri Lanka Customs.

The Magistrate made this order when a former Deputy Commissioner of the Motor Traffic Department and two Managing Assistants of the Department, who were arrested by the Bribery Commission, were produced before the official chambers of Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga.

At this same time, the lawyers appearing for the suspects made a request before the court and requested that their clients be released on bail.

However, the Bribery Commission officials stated before the court that they are conducting further investigations into the incident.

However, considering the facts presented, the court ordered that each suspect be released on personal bail of two million rupees and that they be banned from traveling abroad.
