Arjun Aloysius granted bail

A case filed against W.M. Mendis and company director Arjun Aloysius for allegedly committing fraud by purchasing a stock of newspaper printing paper worth Rs. 12 million was taken up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunuwala today.

Arjun Aloysius and Chaminda Sahan were named as defendants in the case filed by Neptune Papers (Pvt) Ltd, which imports and distributes paper for newspaper printing.

The defendants are accused of issuing four separate cheques in 2019, knowing that there was insufficient money in the bank accounts, and defrauding Rs. 12 million.

The Prisons Authority produced Arjun Aloysius in court, while the second defendant did not appear in court.

On the advice of Attorney-at-Law Dharmathilaka Gamage, Attorney-at-Law Fatima Suhariya presented the facts before the court on behalf of the plaintiff.

The Magistrate, after considering the facts presented by both parties, granted bail to the defendant on eight sureties of Rs. 500,000 each. Arjun Aloysius was currently serving a six-month prison sentence for tax evasion.
