The Kopai Police said that further excavations carried out at the site where suspicious human bones were found near the Chemmini Cemetery in jaffna have so far yielded skeletal remains of 7 human bodies.
The relevant excavations were carried out on the orders of Jaffna Magistrate A. Anandaraja and the Jaffna Magistrate has also ordered the Jaffna Judicial Medical Officer and the police to submit a report to the court on (06) on whether the relevant site is a human burial ground or a mass grave based on the human skeletons and evidence found so far.
On February 16, while workers were digging the foundation for the construction of a modern crematorium required for the Chemmini Cemetery, human skeletal remains were found underground.
