Another injustice to police women is revealed in a parliamentary committee

A parliamentary committee revealed that women police officers have been treated unfairly while getting promotions, even though all aspects of recruitment, training, deployment, retirement etc. are equal to male police officers.

This was revealed when the Parliamentary Special Committee on Gender-Based Discrimination and Violations of Women’s Rights in Sri Lanka, chaired by P.M. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, met in Parliament recently.

It was revealed that there are 92 women Chief Inspectors who have completed twenty six years of service and four years in the post of Chief Inspector of Police, but no specific system or vacancies have been identified regarding their promotions.

The recruitment system and pay level of these female officers are the same as male officers and they are trained together in the same training school without any difference and deployment after training is done in the same way without any difference. Retirement is the same.

But the aggrieved police officers pointed out that there is no problem regarding vacancies in giving promotions to male officers and only female officers face problems regarding vacancies in all cases.
