The government emphasizes that it will take steps to hold the Provincial Council elections as the next general election. Accordingly, the report states that it is most likely that the Provincial Council elections will be held after the establishment of local government institutions.
Speaking to Hiru News, Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Professor Chandana Abeyratne, said that the Provincial Council elections will be held promptly after completing the relevant legal requirements.
Although the delimitation issue related to the Provincial Council elections has not yet been resolved, the Minister further emphasized that postponing the elections is not the government’s policy and that the Provincial Council elections will be held accordingly.
