A silent protest was organized today (06) near the Attorney General’s Department in Colombo, protesting the Attorney General’s recommendation to release the three accused who were charged with concealing evidence related to the Lasantha Wickramatunga murder.
A group of journalists, civil society activists, and social media activists were seen participating in this protest organized by the Young Journalists’ Association. Lal Wickramatunga, the brother of the murdered Lasantha Wickramatunga, also participated in it.
Here, the police obstructed the attempt of the Young Journalists’ Association to hand over a letter containing their demands to the Attorney General. However, Kanishka Rajakaruna, a representative officer of the Attorney General’s Department, later accepted the letter.
At that time, he told journalists who had gathered for the protest, “We are not obligated to answer to the victims or the citizens; go to court if you want.”
