An announcement from the E. C. about the General Election:

The Election Commission has announced the number of Members of Parliament that can be elected to the districts of the island based on the number of voters this year.

According to the number of registered voters in 2023, the highest number of Members of Parliament will be elected from the Colombo district, with a total of 19 MPs. The least number of MPs will be elected from the Trincomalee district, with a total of 4 MPs.

The distribution of MPs from other districts is as follows: 18 from Gampaha, 10 from Kalutara, 12 from Kandy, 15 from Kurunegala, 11 from Ratnapura, 9 from Galle, 5 from Matara, 8 from Nuwara Eliya, 7 each from Matara, Hambantota, Digamadulla, and Jaffna, 6 from the Wanni District, 5 from Batticaloa, 8 from Puttalam, 9 from Anuradhapura, 5 from Polonnaruwa, 9 from Badulla, 6 from Moneragala, and 9 from Kegalle, among others.
