Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu, who played a fast innings, scored 195 runs without loss in 139 balls and contributed to an easy victory for Sri Lanka. This number of runs scored by her joined the record book as the 3rd highest number of runs scored by a women player in an international one-day match.
Due to her excellent performance, the Sri Lankan team managed to draw the ODI series 1-1, consisting of 3 matches.
The Sri Lankan team won the toss and invited the South African team to bat first. South Africa Women scored 301/5 in 50.0 overs, with Laura Wolvaardt not out on 184 (147) and Marizanne Kapp on 36 (34). Sri Lanka’s Kavisha Dilhari took 2 wickets for 47 runs and Athapaththu took 1 wicket for 59 runs.
In reply, the Sri Lanka women’s team passed the target by scoring 305/4 in 44.3 overs. Chamari Athapaththu scored 195 (139) not out while Nilakshi de Silva scored 50 (71). Ayabonga Khaka took 2 wickets for 54 runs and Nadine de Klerk took 1 wicket for 59 runs for South Africa.
The 195 runs scored by Chamari Athapaththu is the highest number of runs scored by a Sri Lankan player in a women’s ODI match.
