Al Jazeera’s Compass

Al Jazeera channel gets the most views these days from the NPP supporters in Sri Lanka. The interview that Mehdi Hassan, a contract journalist, had with former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has managed to please their minds. So they search Al Jazeera and watch. They get excited about it. They keep saying , ”Grandpa is finished”. It should be compared to the childish joy of grade two children . But those who regularly use international media say that Ranil Wickremesinghe has taught an unforgettable lesson not only to Mehdi Hassan but also to Al Jazeera.

When examining the questions that Hassan asked Ranil during that discussion, there are only two or three questions that are relevant to Ranil. All other questions are about Sri Lanka in general. The most effective way is to ask such questions to the current rulers of the country. In spite of that, inviting someone like Ranil, who has withdrawn from politics, to an international media discussion shows the low acceptance of the current government in the international community. NPP supporters should be ashamed of that.

The analysis made by YouTuber Sepal Amarasinghe on this is wonderful. He invites NPP followers to mentally sit Anura Kumara for the Al Jazeera discussion . There is no one in the NPP who can sit for that type of discussion, not only Anura Kumara.

It is disgusting to ask Hassan questions here. His habit is to ask another question before answering it. Therefore, Head to Head is a program that only asks questions and does not allow invitees to answer. At the end of the program, only the questions are remembered because the guest of the talk show is not allowed to answer. Such discussions are common in March and September, in conjunction with the meetings of the United Nations Human Rights Commission. The funds for them are pumped by none other than the Tamil diaspora.

Ranil could have saved a lot in this discussion. All he had to do was to give the answers that Al Jazeera demanded. If he had accepted that human rights were violated in the final war in northan province, the objectives of the diaspora that was holding the strings of the puppet named Mehedhi Hassan would have been achieved . The discussion would have continued along that line and ended. So, at the UN Human Rights Commission in Geneva this September, The discussion would have continued along that line and ended. So, at the UN Human Rights Commission in Geneva this September, the Secretary-General will speak based on Ranil’s Al Jazeera statement. Such a statement would be enough to scare the hell out of the Sri Lankan military by branding them as infamous murderers. But Ranil did not fall into that trap. It was the grandfather who finally fulfilled the national duty that should have been fulfilled by his grand son

The other argument is the Batalanda Commission Report. Many of those writing for the NPP government have come to know that there is such a thing as the Batalanda Commission Report from the BBC journalist who came to observe the Al Jazeera debate. Otherwise, they should have questioned it earlier. But the real story is that the Batalanda Commission was set up by former President Chandrika Kumaratunga. The commission first met on 16 January 1996. It concluded its hearings at the end of October 1997. On 27 March 1998, its report was handed over to the President of Sri Lanka, Chandrika Kumaratunga. The Batalanda Commission report had been released even when the JVP and Chandrika Bandaranaike was formed a probetion government in September 2001. But at no time did the current president or anyone representing the JVP question the report.

The generation after 2000 does not know this. That is why Mehdi Hassan from Al Jazeera has become their hero. That is why the people who have been misled by the government have fallen to the point of asking Al Jazeera for help. Many who do politics for the sake of the NPP do not know that this is the real tragedy of modern politics.

Now they are proposing to bring the Batalanda report to Parliament as soon as possible. This is not because of anything else, but because they know that the day is not far away when the people will take to the streets demanding Ranil in the face of the current government’s impotence.

The Archer.
