President Anura Kumara Dissanayake embarked on a tour of the Northern Province to participate in the Thai Pongal celebrations that fell yesterday (15). The President also participated in the Northern Province Thai Pongal festival held at the Aiyanar Kovil Sports Ground in Velanai, Jaffna.
The President also participated in the Thai Pongal festival organized by the Jaffna Tourism Board at the Manipay Maruthadhi Vinayahar Kovil to promote tourism.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake arrived in Colombo this afternoon, concluding his northern tour, using a Bell 212 helicopter used for VIP transport by the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The use of helicopters for presidential travel was heavily criticized by the National People’s Power during the presidential election and the election season. The current president has even expressed his objection to it in Parliament.
