The National Nuclear Security Administration of the United States and the Sri Lankan Navy are to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of preventing the illegal transportation of nuclear and other radioactive materials.
It is reported that the proposal for this agreement has been approved by the Cabinnet of Ministers after the approval of several relevant regulatory agencies.
The Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council, Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board, Ministry of External Affairs and National Planning Department have examined the draft MoU. In addition, after studying its legal background, the Attorney General has also given his approval for the agreement.
The proposal was presented by the President as the Minister of Defense to sign the proposed Memorandum of Understanding.
