Deputy Minister of Finance Anil Jayantha says that Customs will take action in the future regarding the motor capacity of BYD cars that are being held at the port and have been released due to a questionable situation regarding the motor capacity.
He said that a vehicle is released by Customs but is subject to audit even after being released. Accordingly, if there is any mistake, the outstanding tax amount will have to be paid, he said. He also said that since a company has intervened as the importer of the car, that company should bear it.
However, he said that there is no final decision in this regard and that investigations are currently being conducted and the results will be known soon.
