A statement from the Secretary of Defense regarding the container released without inspection.

Defence Ministry Secretary Sampath Thuyyakontha has denied allegations that a stock of weapons belonging to the LTTE was imported among the 323 containers released without customs inspection. He stressed that the relevant statement is a baseless and false statement.

MP Ramanathan Archuna said in Parliament yesterday that the 323 containers contained firearms belonging to the LTTE and that they were brought from Thailand. He also said that the Tamil diaspora had given money to the National People’s Power for the presidential election. He further commented:

“I am talking about the containers. I can get shot while talking about this because I have not been given security. I went to Germany before the presidential election and found Dias Pora. The goods of Prabhakaran that were in Thailand were brought here by KP through Kumaran Pathmanathan. People are talking. They say that the last remaining weapons and firearms were brought in those containers. I cannot prove this. I am saying this responsibly. There were 300 containers containing Prabhakaran’s firearms. They brought those that had been scattered all over the place.”
