The Government Medical Officers Association has issued a press release regarding the situation that has arisen at the National Eye Hospital. The press release is reproduced below in its entirety.
Regarding the issues that have arisen regarding the transfer of the National Eye Hospital.
It is clear that the Acting Director of the hospital is misleading the public by continuously issuing statements through the media that the doctors of the National Eye Hospital have remained in the same hospital for years without being transferred.
On 2026.02.02, all the doctors who have been transferred at the National Eye Hospital submitted a letter to the Director of Health Services II, requesting that the transfers recommended to them by the Public Service Commission be implemented from today as per the order of the Health Secretary.
Further, considering the discredit caused to their profession and the hospital through the incorrect media statements of the Ministry of Health and the Director and the inconvenience caused to the doctors, nearly 50 doctors of the Eye Hospital have written to the Acting Director of the Hospital to release their transfers to the relevant hospitals from today.
As per the order of the Secretary of Health, it has been decided to implement all transfer orders within a week from today, i.e. 2026.02.02, we kindly request that the decision be implemented promptly and that all the relevant doctors be released from the hospital.
In addition, the Director, who has been continuously making false allegations in the past few days and causing inconvenience to the doctors of the Eye Hospital and mobilizing the people of the country against the doctors, is also requested to take responsibility in this regard. As he mentioned, since the doctors of the Eye Hospital are serving the hospital for a long time, we believe that there will be no inconvenience in continuing the process.
Therefore, today (2026.02.02), the doctors of the National Eye Hospital have informed the Ministry of Health and the Acting Director of the National Eye Hospital to release all the ophthalmologists who have been transferred to the National Eye Hospital and to bring in successor doctors for that purpose. We also expect that the work of the Eye Hospital, which the Acting Director hopes to achieve through the implementation of that process, will be carried out efficiently.
The transfer of ophthalmologists will not cause any disadvantage to the Eye Hospital or the Ministry, and we also believe that there will be no inconvenience in moving the hospital forward without ophthalmologists, as stated by the Minister.
