The Ministry of Foreign Affairs declares that a Sri Lankan family of four who were stranded in the Gaza Strip has arrived safely in Sri Lanka.
The consular section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has arranged to bring back the family. They arrived in Colombo on November 24, and the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the returned Sri Lankans in a statement on Monday.
Officials of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Cairo working in coordination with the Egyptian authorities have gone to the Rafah border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip and taken the stranded Sri Lankans into their custody.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said logistics and air transport for the returnees was facilitated with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
15 Sri Lankans have been rescued from the Gaza Strip across the Rafah border and brought back safely to Sri Lanka in coordination with the Sri Lankan Missions in Cairo and Ramallah since the beginning of the recent crisis on 7 October 2023.
