A special parliamentary session has been convened today (14) to inform the House of the Supreme Court’s decision on the Local Government Elections Amendment Bill.
The Speaker is scheduled to inform the House of the Supreme Court’s decision at that time.
In addition, the relevant ministerial consultative committee is also scheduled to meet today (14) to consider the bill.
Subsequently, the second reading debate on the Local Government Elections Amendment Bill is scheduled to be held on Monday, the 17th, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Expressing his views in this regard, Elections Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake said that future decisions will be taken on the matter after the Speaker announces the Supreme Court’s decision on the Local Government Elections.
