The Wildlife Department has taken steps to issue special identity cards to the Vedda community to enter the forests and earn an unhindered livelihood from the resources.
Responding to a petition submitted to the Human Rights Commission by Rathugala Vedi Leader Suda vannilaeththo , a senior official of the department said that Dambana and Rathugala indigenous people will receive identity cards under the first phase of this project.
He said that only the people recommended by the community leader will get these special ID cards.
