It is reported that India’s major airline, IndiGo, is going to start flight operations between Chennai and Jaffna from September 1.
Currently, India’s Alliance Air operates daily flights to Jaffna. Initially, the airline was started with the financial support of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs to improve connectivity between northern Sri Lanka and southern India.
According to an information source in Jaffna, flight operations between South India and Jaffna in Sri Lanka have now become commercially successful. Accordingly, IndiGo Airlines has decided to start the new service. Taking that situation into consideration, plans have now been made to expand the Jaffna International Airport.
