The Elpitiya police apprehended three individuals traveling suspiciously in a modern KDH type van, wearing gold jewelry worth more than 6 million rupees.
One of them claimed to be a ”Lapu” from a temple in Kuwait. Upon searching the van, the police seized a 4-foot-long white iron sword and a stock of foreign-made cigerette.
A spokesperson for the Elpitiya Police stated that the suspects offered a bribe of twenty-five lakh rupees (25,00000/-) for their release.
The arrested individuals are Jayasuriya Arachchilage Dinuka Madhushan (38), residing at 17 Koroswatta Divulgalla Naramwala, Gayatri Chandralata (46) of Herath Mudianselah, residing at the same address, and Mohandiranlage Chamara Pushpakumara (32), residing at No. 39 Dambagirigama Horombawa. The Elpitiya Police confirmed during their investigation that the first and second suspects are husband and wife.
