A gift from China to all school students

The Chinese government has agreed to provide the entire amount of uniforms for the year 2026 as a gift to 4,418,404 government and government-aided school students.

The official ceremony to exchange the relevant certificates of agreement was held yesterday (11) at the premises of the Ministry of Education in Battaramulla.

This was held under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Madura Seneviratne, and the Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong.

At that time, the certificate of agreement to provide the uniforms for the year 2026 was exchanged between the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa and the Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Madura Seneviratne, said the following.

“For the year 2025, China donated 11.82 million meters of fabric to Sri Lanka. This covered the entire national need and directly benefited more than 4.6 million students across the country.

This contribution, worth more than 5.17 billion rupees, paved the way for every child, from the youngest student to the senior students preparing for national examinations, to pursue education with dignity and equality.

A similar contribution for the year 2026 is also appreciated,” he said.
