A counter for foreigners to reclaim VAT paid by them has been established at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
This counter was opened yesterday (04) under the patronage of the Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunnethi, and the Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance, Anil Jayantha.
This counter has been established following a proposal made to the President by the Gem and Jewellery Authority and the Ministry of Industries.
This counter has been opened with the aim of reclaiming the value added tax paid by tourists visiting Sri Lanka when purchasing goods in the country.
Accordingly, tourists who have paid VAT exceeding Rs. 50,000 and who have stayed in Sri Lanka for more than 90 days can reclaim the VAT they have paid through this counter.
