Cabinet Media Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa says that a controlled price has been set for a number of medicines and that a relevant gazette notification will be issued in the future. The Minister stated this while participating in the media briefing to inform the Cabinet of Ministers today (18).
Accordingly, the relevant gazette notification will set the controlled price of 350 medicines and that the law is expected to be enforced against those who do not comply with the gazette notification.
He further stated that this announcement will also apply to medicines that are currently registered and those that will be registered in the future.
“According to the new gazette notification we have submitted, the price of all registered medicines will be reduced from now on. Accordingly, the National Medicines Regulatory Authority has issued the price reduction for medicines registered after the implementation of this gazette notification. Accordingly, the registration period will not take much time. In a few more months, registration will be done according to this price formula for the registration of almost all medicines used in Sri Lanka,”
