According to Deputy Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe, bonuses for the staff of public institutions should be paid in relation to the year 2023 only if an institution has earned profits in the 2022 financial year. In addition, the government announced that bonuses will only be paid if at least 30% of the profit after tax is paid out as dividends.
He said these entities will not be entitled if they have earned profits in year 2022 but have not paid at least 30% of the profit after tax as dividends to the Consolidated Fund or have reported a loss in year 2022.
