President Ranil Wickramasinghe said that the government is ready to support Colombo University if it presents a 10-year development plan to move forward with it at a time when the whole world is moving towards a knowledge revolution with technological advances such as artificial intelligence. The President mentioned this while addressing the meeting of the 2023 graduates of the University of Colombo held at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo.
A pinnacle award ceremony was also organized here to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Colombo University Alumni Association and President Ranil Wickramasinghe was honored with the first award given to the Alumni who perform a special mission for the country, society and the University of Colombo.
Reverend Dimbulkumbure Vimaladhamma Thero and Member of Parliament Professor G.L. Peiris, Prof. Deshmanya JB. Dissanayake, Tilak Karunaratne and 11 others received the award.
Pointing out that there is a need for innovation in the entire university system, the President also asked the Colombo University Alumni Association to look for immediate solutions to the problems that have arisen in the education sector.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe who further requested the former students to commit themselves to the preparation of this 10-year development plan as soon as possible, said that if not, the University of Colombo will lose the opportunity to contribute to that special process.
Prof. Maithrie Wickramasinghe, Vice-Chancellor of Colombo University Prof. H.D. Karunaratne, Chairman of the Association of Adi Vidyarthains J.M.S. Bandara and other members were present.
