80,000 displaced by floods and landslides in Indonesia

At least 19 people have died and seven others are missing in flash floods and landslides on the Indonesian island of Sumatra due to continuous torrential rains, according to relief workers in Sumatra.

Relief workers say seven dead bodies were found in damaged houses in the village of Koto XI Tarusan, which was the worst affected by the flood. In addition, they mentioned that nearly 8 dead bodies were found in two other places.

It is reported that more than 80,000 people have been displaced and the death toll may rise as nearly 14 houses have been buried by floods and landslides. Relief workers say 20,000 houses in nine districts and towns in West Sumatra province have been flooded up to their roofs.

It is reported that the rescue of the victims has become very difficult due to the floods and road blockages.
