The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has pledged a sum of 7.2 billion Sri Lankan Rupees (approximately $22 million) to Sri Lanka. This announcement was made by State Minister Shehan Semasinghe on his X account (formerly Twitter). The financial aid is aimed at supporting several key areas in Sri Lanka, including market-based growth, environmental sustainability and resilience, and the promotion of good governance practices.
The announcement followed a discussion with Michael Schiffer, the Assistant Administrator for the USAID Asia Bureau. This aid is part of the broader efforts by the United States to assist Sri Lanka in its ongoing economic and environmental challenges, especially as the country continues to recover from its recent economic crisis.
