39 of the 71 drugs that failed quality tests were imported from India

According to the data of the Medical Supply Division of the Ministry of Health, 71 medicines have failed quality tests so far in 2024. It is reported that more than half of the drugs that failed were manufactured in India.

All 39 medicines that failed quality tests are Indian products. Another 10 medicines are produced locally and others are imported from countries like China, Kenya, Pakistan, Japan and Bangladesh.

Commenting on this, a senior official of the Ministry of Health said that India is one of the leading producers of medicines in the world, but it is a common occurrence that the quality of medicines produced in the country decreases. However, quality tests related to medicines are conducted with strict supervision, he said.
